Wangari Muchiri is a Associate and Sustainability Consultant working in the real-estate industry in East Africa . She is a board member of the Kenya Green Building Society and also heads up the technical committee which has been instrumental in localizing various green building certification tools such as IFC’s Edge Tool and Green Star.
Wangari is a Kenyan national with International experience gained consulting in real estate, sustainable buildings and energy with JLL in Australia.
Wangari has over 5 years experience consulting to banking, government and multinational clients in Australia and Kenya. She previously worked as a Sustainability Manager with JLL in Sydney and Canberra developing sustainability management plans, managing green lease schedules and handling renewable energy projects for various clients. Some of her clients include Microsoft, SAP, Cigna, Scania, Department of Human Services Australia, The Commonwealth Bank of Australia and The Department of Immigration and Boarder protection (DIBP) Australia.
Wangari holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Renewable Energy) from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and a Masters of Engineering (Energy Planning and Policy) from the University of Technology, Sydney.
She is also a member of the Kenya Renewable Energy Association (KEREA), the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and Engineers Australia (EA).
In the real estate space, Wangari hopes to influence the progression of the current built environment towards a more sustainable one. She hopes to achieve this through consulting to key occupiers and developers by helping them understand the benefits of going green and investing in more sustainable buildings across Africa.
